DENVER – Denver Public Works would like commuters to be aware of two transportation improvement projects that begin this Thursday, May 19, lasting through the weekend, and impacting some streets in and around Downtown Denver.
Southbound Speer Boulevard from Champa to Colfax
· On Thursday, May 19, from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm, Denver Public Works Street Maintenance crews will close lanes along this stretch of Speer Boulevard for milling operations. Two lanes of traffic will remain open while milling is underway.
· Then at 7:00 pm on May 19, SB Speer Boulevard will fully close from Champa to Colfax for RTD light rail repair and maintenance and re-open Monday, May 23, at 4:00 am. Southbound Speer Boulevard traffic will detour onto Kalamath during the closure.
13th Avenue from Pecos to Osage
· At 7:00pm on May 19, 13th Avenue from Pecos to Osage will fully close for RTD light rail maintenance and repair work and reopen Monday, May 23, at 4:00am.
Broadway from Colfax Avenue to 17th
· Denver Public Works will fully close Broadway from Colfax Avenue to 17th Avenue beginning Thursday, May 19, at 7:00 pm to install new concrete at the Broadway and 16th Avenue intersection. The stretch will reopen Monday, May 23, at 5:00 am.
In addition to the concrete work, other safety improvements are being made at the Broadway and 16th intersection including upgraded traffic signals, new intersection striping and ADA ramps, a new dedicated bike lane and 80-foot elevated off-street bike path on the north side of 16th Avenue between Lincoln and Broadway, as well as new bike racks, trees and lighting on the Northeast corner of 16th Avenue and Broadway.
Drivers should anticipate detours and delays with these improvement projects. The public’s patience and cooperation during construction is greatly appreciated. All work is weather dependent and subject to change.
